120 300x225 EUROPEAN TOUR SEPT 2013

This year, we have selected a fantastic route taking in some of the French, Swiss and Austrian Alps in a whirlwind of 9 days and 8 nights, ending up with the octane-fuelled thrill of the Nurburgring, all the while staying at minimum 4 star hotels which we have selected for their gastronomic reputations.First off, we leave the Eurotunnel and head for the quiet and fast country roads in the Bourgogne countryside. We stay in the famous village of Puligny-Montrachet, kicking off the tour with a great gastro experience, no doubt accompanied by some awesome local wines. The next morning we launch into the Rhone and Provence Alps to stay at the foot of the highest paved road in Europe, the Col de la Bonette, with a late afternoon burn to the top and back again for another great meal. We continue the Alpine theme the next day heading to the Col de L’Iseran, after a brief flirtation over the Italian border. After topping out, we head back to Italy and eventually drop down to our hotel on the shores of Lago Maggiore, with the Italian Alps as an inspiring backdrop. The amazing Furka pass beckons the next day, after a picturesque drive from Brig. After the thrills of one of the finest passes in Europe, we head for the San Bernadino pass and the way to St Moritz. The next day its the Stelvio with its awesome hairpins. After lunching at the top on such local specialities as ‘donkey delights’!, we ease our way down again and head for the spectacular Dolomite region. Impossibly high peaks such as the Sassolungo stride into view, along with the green valley of the Selva di Val Gardena. Our hotel here is the Alpenroyal, a place to which you will undoubtedly want to return.

A rest day looms, with local climbing, walking, and helicopter rides available, or exploring the region in your own car. Whatever you do, you will love this area. Our final day in Italy sees us heading through the Dolomites and onto the Grossglockner pass via Lienz, before our penultimate night in Kitzbuhel. For the final day, we travel to the Nurburgring for the Saturday public session at the Nordschleife. This is, of course, entirely optional! Driving it is a huge adrenalin rush, but its also a fascinating place to watch and hear the thrill-seekers. Staying at Sabine’s hotel that night, we have our farewell dinner at the famous Pistenklause restaurant! It will be a fond goodbye to a great tour, whose friendships and memories will linger for years to come.
