With our in-depth knowledge of the Highlands, this 3 day, 2 night tour of the finest scenery in Britain will be a cracker.

June 14th
We meet and start at Amari Supercar dealership in Preston, giving our tour group an opportunity to mix and discuss what fun lies ahead for the next couple of days. Joining the M6, we head north to God’s country! The traffic disappears as we head over the Shap summit and we flow through the M74 through the Border country.
Once past Glasgow, the roads narrow by Loch Lomond and we pause at The Boathouse on the shores of Loch Lomond for lunch.

Up the twisting road past Tarbet, the road soon opens out and onto the first taste of Highland driving through Glencoe. Flashing over the long straights at Rannoch Moor we see the Sentinel of Glencoe, the mountain called the Buchaille, which guards its smaller brethren, the Three Sisters, from the east end of the Glen. Through the gorge, mountains rise sharply on either side of the road, making a spine-shivering panorama with the memories of the murders visited upon the MacDonalds by the Campbell Clan. We will take photos of the Lost Valley where cattle and men hiked to ‘disappear’ from view. On the north side of the glen is the classic knife edge ridge walk of the Aonach Eagach with its spiky rock pinnacles beckoning.
Over the Ballachulish bridge, we are 30 minutes away from Glenfinnan, home to the Jacobite monument of Prince Charlie and its stunning position at the head of Loch Shiel. As a backdrop, we see the curved Glenfinnan viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films and the Hogwart Express.
Our night at the Glenfinnan House Hotel will give a true flavour of Scottish life as we used to know it. A classic Laird’s house on the shores of Loch Shiel, a Highland welcome, good food, a lively bar with impromptu music and a late licence!

June 15th:
After a hearty Scottish breakfast, the morning heralds the start of the unofficial Ardnamuchan TT, running for 15 miles parallel to the route of one of the top ten train journeys in the world. We veer off at Kinlochailort and head towards Glenuig and the Moidart peninsula, with views out to the islands of Eigg and Muck.
A visit to Acharacle is not the same without a detour to the jaw-dropping location and aspect of Castle Tioram. A wander round the huge ruin and we head back out to Salen, Strontian and the final TT blast up to Ardgour. We will sit in the short queue for the Corran ferry and have the craic with the car mad ferrymen on our 5 minute trip over to Nether Lochaber. A 15 minute trip to the acclaimed Loch Leven Seafood restaurant for lunch (vegetarians are amply catered for as well).

On past the majesty of Ben Nevis, we skirt round its satellite ridges and head east through the quiet and fast roads east to the nature reserve of Creagh Meagidh and on to the imposing view across Loch Laggan of Ardverikie, one of the finest private houses in Scotland and host to the ‘Monarch of the Glen’. The single track road turns right over to the Dalwhinnie distillery, one of the highest in Scotland, and worthy of a tour.
South down the A9, we exit right after 45 minutes to Aberfeldy and Menzies Castle, and come out on the topside of the silvery Loch Tay. We enjoy its stunning views all the way to Killin and the Falls of Dochart. Onwards to Tom Lewis’s new venture, the Mhor84 hotel at Balquhidder. Probably the most enthusiastic hotel owner on earth, he has produced another cracker of a hotel, with an earthier feel but with the vital ingredients of another lively bar and great food! The rooms are small but comfortable, but we are not here to sleep! After a great final night to the tour, we will sadly say goodbye to the Highlands as we wander back south, our minds full of great memories of the flying visit to the Highlands of Scotland!
